Not Again! Stupid Picks, The UFC Live 4 Version

Although I always say picking fights is stupid, I always add that it’s fun, and it’s even better when you’re kicking ass with your picks. So, here we go again . . . (Jason Probst’s picks can be found here.)

Nate Marquardt vs. Rick Story

As I said on Fight Fans Radio, Story’s getting in there too soon after a tough fight against a tough Thiago Alves.

The Pick: Marquardt
Jason Probst: Story by unanimous decision.

EDIT: Brenneman is now fighting Rick Story, as Nate Marquardt is out of the fight, and out of the UFC.

Patrick Barry vs. Cheick Kongo

Although I like both guys, I have little faith in either. Pat has faith in me, which makes me feel guilty. My only certainty here is that it’ll be a decision. Kongo will probably try to wrestle and ground-and-pound.

The Pick: Kongo by decision.
Jason Probst: Kongo by third-round win by ground-and-pound.

Tyson Griffin vs. Manny Gamburyan

Manny’s used to this weight division. Tyson is running from his.

The Pick: Gamburyan
Jason Probst: Griffin by late stoppage in a rousing back-and-forth battle.

Matt Brown vs. John Howard

Matt Brown will finally get his well-deserved pink slip.

The Pick: Howard
Jason Probst: Howard by second-round submission or TKO stoppage.

Joe Stevenson vs. Javier Vasquez

As of 6/22/2011, 6:32am, Javier Vasquez’s Sherdog page had nothing on it but a 0-0 record. On the other hand, his Wikipedia page says he’s a 15-5 WEC veteran. It also says he’s the son-in-law of Rorion Gracie.

The Pick: Vasquez by submission of the night
Jason Probst: All signs point to Vazquez here, and he takes it by decision.

Matt Mitrione vs. Christian Morecraft

Mitrione is legitimately vying for a title shot. Christian is just getting started with the big stage.

The Pick: Mitrione
Jason Probst: Mitrione by a close decision win.

Michael Johnson vs. Edward Faaloloto

Both have unimpressive records. I’ll go with more experience over less experience.

The Pick: Johnson
Jason Probst: Johnson by second-round TKO.

T. J. Grant vs. Charlie Brenneman

T.J. has lost more, but to better opponents.

The Pick: Grant
Jason Probst: Brenneman by decision.

EDIT: Brenneman is now fighting Rick Story, as Nate Marquardt is out of the fight, and out of the UFC.

Charles Oliveira vs. Nik Lentz

Tough call, but Oliveira was so damn impressive before running into one of the best fighters in the division (Jim Miller), I have to pick him.

The Pick: Oliveira
Jason Probst: Lentz by decision.

Joe Lauzon vs. Curt Warburton

Like Kenny Florian, Joe has a stupid nickname. Also, like Florian, Joe’s pretty good without a #1 contender spot or belt on the line.

The Pick: Lauzon
Jason Probst: Lauzon by second-round submission.

Daniel Roberts vs. Rich Attonito

On paper, a very close call.

The Pick: Roberts
Jason Probst: Roberts by decision.

Matt Grice vs. Ricardo Lamas

Grice looks like he was released due to poor performance and is now being brought back to fill a spot on the card.

The Pick: Lamas
Jason Probst: Llamas by second-round TKO.
